Masonry Defender’s Stamped Concrete Sealer is specially formulated for use on your cured stamped concrete surfaces. It is designed to leave an appealing, semi-gloss finish that not only enhances the appearance of your pathways but also protects against damage and color loss from sun and moisture damage.

HOW TO USE STAMPED CONCRETE SEALER

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Before use, read all directions for preparation, application, and safety information. Always test each type of surface before application for suitability and desired results before proceeding with general application. Do not proceed with application if any of the following occur: temperature falls below 50°F, rainfall is predicted within eight hours of application, or when surface is frozen. Application should only be made when surface temperature is between 50-90°F and is thoroughly dry.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Remove dust, dirt, grease, oils, efflorescence, wax, curing compounds, coatings or other foreign matter that might block or interfere with product penetration. New construction should cure for a period of no less than 28 days and should be clean and dry. Test a small area of surface before starting general application to ensure desired results and coverage rates. Provide adequate ventilation if applied indoors. Protect adjacent paint films, windows, plant life, drains, asphalt-based material, and all non-targeted surfaces from overspray. Remove any overspray immediately with soap and water. During use, avoid wind drift that may injure pedestrians or may damage vehicles or adjacent properties.

Note: Product will cause any stains on surface being treated to darken. Remove all stains before applying.

STEP 1: CLEAN SURFACE

For new concrete: After allowing new concrete to cure for 28 days, use muriatic acid (available at most hardware or home improvement stores) according to directions to etch and prepare the surface. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely before using MasonryDefender Stamped Concrete Sealer. It is extremely important to rinse the surface thoroughly with water after using muriatic acid, or after staining with an acid-based concrete stain, to bring the substrate to a neutral ph level (7). After rinsing, surface should be allowed to dry a minimum of three to five days prior to sealing. Applying sealer over an acidic substrate will most likely result in failure. For existing concrete: Clean surface with MasonryDefender All Purpose Masonry & Concrete Cleaner per label instructions. If oil or grease stains are present, use a quality degreasing cleaner available at most hardware or home improvement stores. If desired, a pressure washer can be used to rinse cleaner off and may result in a cleaner surface than rinsing with a garden hose alone. Allow surface to dry, waiting a minimum of 6 hours before proceeding to next step.

STEP 2: APPLY SEALER

Mix thoroughly before use. Apply two uniform coats of material to new, previously untreated concrete surfaces with a pump-up garden sprayer with a fan-type nozzle. You can also use an airless sprayer, pad applicator, or short nap roller. Allow the first coat of material to dry sufficiently to walk on, but not more than 4 hours, prior to application of the second coat. Avoid puddling or ponding of product: brush or roll material until it thoroughly penetrates the surface. Block all drains and use absorptive coverings to contain run-off or excess material. Use soap and water to remove overspray as soon as possible.

Coverage Rate:

100 – 150 square feet per gallon on concrete. Coverage rates will vary based on the porosity of the substrate.

Waxing:

For best long-term results on interior surfaces, when cured, Stamped Concrete Sealer should be sealed and protected with a waxing compound. Failure to apply and maintain a wax coating will result in premature failure of the product. On exterior surfaces no wax coating is necessary.

Note:

Over-application of material may cause darkening of surface.

Dry Time:

1-2 hours, depending on temperature and humidity. Allow 4-6 hours cure time before exposing to foot traffic. Allow 6 days cure time before exposure to heavy traffic, such as forklifts, automobiles, etc.

Cleanup:

Remove any overspray immediately with soap and water. Dry film can be removed using a razor scraper. Thoroughly rinse equipment with clean water.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Does this product make my concrete slippery?

Our Stamped Concrete Sealer will not make your walkway more slippery due to its use of a semi-gloss instead of a high-gloss finish. However, you can partner this product with MasonryDefender Clear Non-Slip Additive to help add a gritty, non-slip texture to your surface without changing the color.

Can I apply this product in the heat?

Application in temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit is allowed. You can also apply with temperatures as low as 50 degrees. Avoid application when rainfall is expected within an eight-hour time period or when the concrete surface can freeze. Apply to dry surfaces only.

Do I need to prepare my new surface first?

Yes. If your concrete is new, let it cure for a period of at least four weeks before applying a sealant. Ensure the surface is etched properly and then rinse it thoroughly to restore a neutral pH level. A dry time of several days’ minimum is recommended before applying sealant.

How many coats are required?

We recommend applying two coats at a minimum. Allow the first coat to dry for 1-2 hours before starting the second coat?

What tools do I need to apply stamped concrete sealant?

For horizontal surfaces, wee recommend using a 1/8″ or 1/2″ nap roller. You can also use a pump-up garden sprayer with a fan nozzle, an airless sprayer, or applicator pad are also acceptable methods of application. Always apply in a small test area before applying to your entire surface.

How much surface will this product cover?

One gallon of our Stamped Concrete Sealer will cover approximately 100 to 150 square feet. Take into account the need for a second coat when projecting the amount of sealant, you require.

How long does it take this product to dry?

Drying time is one to two hours depending on the temperature and humidity levels at your home. Avoid walking on the surface for a minimum of four to six hours after application of the final coat. For best results, minimize use of the area for a full curing time of six days.
