HOW TO USE CONCRETE SEALER

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Before use, read all directions for preparation, application, and safety information. Always test each type of surface before application for suitability and desired results before proceeding with general application. Surface and air temperatures should be a minimum of 40°F and a maximum of 100°F for three hours following application. Do not apply to frozen or frost covered surfaces. Application must be to clean, sound, dry surfaces. Do not apply to wet or water saturated surfaces or when rainfall is expected within six hours. Limitations: Do not use over extremely dense, or polished surfaces. This product is designed for above-grade vertical surfaces only. Do not use on below-grade applications that are subject to severe hydro-static pressures. Excessive moisture within the substrate can cause peeling. This product will darken the surface and produce a satin sheen.

SURFACE PREPARATION

When using, surface to receive application should be clean and dry. Absorbed moisture should not be present. New construction should cure for a period of no less than 28 days and should be clean and dry. If necessary, the surface should be thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, oil, wax, curing compounds, efflorescence, coatings, and other foreign materials. The surface may need to be swept and/or washed to remove the above mentioned foreign materials in order to expose a clean and sound surface. Chemicals or other cleaning compounds used to facilitate the removal of these foreign materials must be removed thoroughly before applying the product. Protect all adjacent glossy surfaces, paint films, windows, plant life, and all other non-targeted surfaces from overspray and run-down.

STEP 1: CLEAN SURFACE

If necessary, clean exterior surfaces with MasonryDefender All-Purpose Masonry & Concrete Cleaner per label instructions. Allow adequate time for the surface to thoroughly dry before sealing the surface.

STEP 2: APPLY SEALER

Mix thoroughly before use. Apply two uniform coats of material to masonry surfaces with an airless or lowpressure sprayer. You can also use a brush or roller. Start at the bottom and apply in a saturating spray. Apply sufficient material to create a six to eight-inch rundown below the contact point. Always back-roll to assure proper penetration and to achieve a uniform application. Allow the first coat to dry completely, approximately two hours, before applying the second coat. Reapply second coat in the same manner as in the first coat. In the case of extremely porous substrates, additional applications may be necessary. Use soap and water to remove overspray as soon as possible.

Coverage Rate:

Approximately 80-150 sq. ft. per gallon. Coverage rates will vary depending on surface porosity. Do not thin product.

Note:

MasonryDefender Interior/Exterior Brick Sealer goes on a milky white color but dries to a clear finish. Over-application of material may cause increased darkening of surface. Product will cause stains left on surface being treated to darken. Remove all stains before applying.

Storage and Disposal:

Do not store below 32° F. Dispose of this container and any unused product in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Dry Time:

Surface will be dry to touch in 1-2 hours, depending on temperature and humidity.

Cleanup:

Clean tools immediately after each use with soap and water.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

How many coats should I apply?

Continue to apply fresh coats of sealant until a desired level of sheen is achieved. Wait 1-2 hours between coats to apply a new coat. On extremely porous surfaces, application of several coats of interior brick sealer may be necessary.

Can I apply this product in the fall?

Our interior and exterior brick sealant will provide the best results when applied with a temperature range between 40 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Application should be made on freshly cleaned, dry surfaces. Only apply when there is not a chance of rain for at least six hours.

What are the benefits of brick sealant indoors?

For interior applications, a brick sealant helps minimize brick dust. This helps your indoor air stay fresh and makes the brick surface easier to clean. It also adds an attractive sheen to the wall. This can help brighten a room as the gloss reflects light.

What are the benefits outdoors?

Brick sealer provides a barrier both indoors and outdoors. Outside, it reduces water penetration on the exterior walls of your home. This helps limit your exposure to damage as moisture freezes in the winter months, causing expansion and contraction which can lead to spalling or brick cracks.

Can I apply this to seal my basement walls?

No. Application to below-grade surfaces is not recommended.

What surfaces can I use this on?

Our Brick Sealer can be applied to vertical exterior and interior masonry surfaces made of brick, stone, stucco, adobe and other moderately dense substrates.

Does the product have an odor?

This water-based formula has a very minimal odor.

How long does it take to dry?

For reapplication purposes, dry time for our Brick Sealer is two hours. The surface becomes dry to the touch in one to two hours based on the temperature and humidity level in your area.

Does the product add any color?

No. A milky white color is present upon application, but the product dries with a clear sheen only.
